A proven leader in police accountability, Sydney has provided insight and guidance on civil and human rights matters impacting law enforcement, including illegal search and seizure, denial of counsel and officer-involved shootings. Sydney’s law enforcement experience spans 20 years, the last four of which she served as the chief executive of the Illinois Secretary of State Police.
In addition to her career in law enforcement and police reform, as Inspector General, Sydney has led public integrity compliance investigations involving corruption, abuse of power, fraud and waste and mismanagement. Sydney has also worked as an advocate for victims’ rights and persons with mental and developmental disabilities.
